The coach pulls away from Edinburgh early, and you're heading south toward the Northumberland coast before most of the city is awake. Next door sits the Alnwick Garden, acres of woodland walks and the famous Poison Garden if you want to wander that way instead. The drive back takes you through the Borders and Northumberland National Park, with a stop for refreshments somewhere in the rolling landscape between Scotland and England.
