The experience
You arrive in AlUla and your guide meets you at your hotel. From there, the two days are planned around the sites that matter most: Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Nabataean tombs are carved into sandstone cliffs; Dadan, the ancient capital of kingdoms that controlled trade routes across northwest Arabia; and the natural formations. Elephant Rock shaped by wind and erosion, the mirrored surfaces of Maraya reflecting the desert, the oasis where date palms and citrus trees still grow. Your guide handles the logistics, entry tickets are arranged in advance, and private air-conditioned transportation takes you between each stop.
Day one moves through the iconic landmarks. Hegra's monumental tombs introduce you to the civilizations and burial traditions that shaped the region. You'll learn about the ancient trade routes as you explore. A stop at Maraya gives you time for photographs of its reflective exterior against the Ashar Valley. Elephant Rock follows, and then you walk the narrow streets of AlUla Old Town with your guide, who shares stories of the merchants and pilgrims who once moved through here. The evening ends in the AlJadidah Arts District beside the Old Town, where cafés, restaurants, local shops and public artworks create a lively atmosphere. You have free time for dinner and exploring at your own pace.
Day two takes you to Dadan and the surrounding landscape. The Lion Tombs carved high into the mountain mark the site of ancient kingdoms. Your guide explains the civilizations that controlled this region. You walk through the AlUla Oasis to see the traditional agricultural system and learn how farming shaped local life. The tour ends at Harrat Viewpoint, where panoramic views stretch across AlUla's mountains, oasis, Old Town and desert: an ideal spot for sunset photographs. A stop at Shalal Café lets you rest and take in the landscape before returning to your hotel.
