The experience
The Caguana Indigenous Ceremonial Center anchors this tour: ten ceremonial courts where the Taíno played Batey, the ancient ball game, and gathered for Areitos celebrations. An archaeologist guides you through the site and its on-site museum, grounding the mythology and culture of Puerto Rico's indigenous past in the landscape where it actually happened. The serene setting at the center of the island is where you spend the first part of the day learning how Taíno traditions still run through modern Boricua culture.
After Caguana, the tour stops for lunch before heading back toward San Juan. On the return, you visit the town of Manatí and Cueva de las Golondrinas near Mar Chiquita Beach. Inside the cave, you see bats, stalagmites and stalactites alongside ancient petroglyphs: rock art left by Taíno ancestors at a site they considered sacred. The cave visit closes the day by showing you how the island's indigenous heritage is literally carved into its landscape.
The eight-hour tour runs as a private group of no more than six people, with a driver and archaeologist guide handling all transport by vehicle. Hotel or port pickup and drop-off are included, so you don't arrange your own way to the sites. The guide offers the tour in English or Spanish.
