- Observe local wildlife along the trail
- Visit Quinta do Lago luxury condominium
- Glide Segway through salt marshes
- Enjoy seafood festival lunch at WaxResto Bar
The experience
The Ludo trail winds through terrain where hikers without a guide can easily lose their way, but on a Segway, you cover ground faster and see more of what the park holds. Flamingos, purple swamp hens, egrets, spoonbills and Black Winged Stilts move through the wetlands as you glide past salt marshes and salt production beds. The route connects the city to Ria Formosa, a protected area that stretches across the coast, and the quiet hum of the Segway lets you hear the birds and water rather than an engine.
After the natural park, the tour swings through Quinta do Lago, a gated condominium where European celebrities own multi-million-euro vacation villas tucked among manicured lakes, restaurants and bars. The contrast is sharp: the wild marshes give way to manicured wealth, all of it woven into the same landscape. On the return, you ride the "Recta do Sal", the salt road, where the flat terrain lets you either push the Segway to its limit or simply glide and watch the scenery unfold.
The tour ends at Wax Resto Bar on Faro Island with a seafood festival lunch. Everything on the plate comes from Ria Formosa: the fish and shellfish are caught from the same waters you just rode past. The meal is included, and the view of the sea frames the end of the day.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and French.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What birds and wildlife will I see on the Ludo trail?
Flamingos, purple swamp hens, egrets, spoonbills, Black Winged Stilts and Glossy Ibis live in the Ria Formosa wetlands that the trail passes through. The natural park is a protected area, so sightings depend on the season and time of day, but these species are common to the region.
Do I need to know how to ride a Segway before I book?
No. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and the Ludo trail is designed to be ridden easily once you're on the machine. The guide will show you how to operate it before you start.
What's included in the seafood lunch at Wax Resto Bar?
The lunch is a seafood festival featuring fish and shellfish sourced from Ria Formosa natural park: the same waters you ride past during the tour. The meal is included in the tour price, and you eat overlooking Faro Island.
How long does the whole tour take?
The tour runs between two and a half and three and a half hours, depending on pace and how long you spend at each stop. The Segway riding, the visit to Quinta do Lago, and the lunch at Wax Resto Bar are all part of that time.
Can children ride on this tour?
Children under six can ride with one of the guides on their Segway rather than operating their own. Children six and older can ride their own Segway if they're comfortable doing so. Ask when you book about your child's age and experience.
