The experience
What makes this different from a shared boat tour is the privacy: you're not joining strangers, and the skipper can adjust the route and timing to what your group wants to do. The catamaran runs from Vilamoura along the coast between São Rafael and Senhora da Rocha, passing the Arco do Triunfo rock formation, Gruta do Capitão cave and Praia do Submarino. The sail takes about two and a half hours total, timed for sunset, so you're on the water as the light changes.
The boat comes fully equipped: two bottles of wine (white or rosé), a cheese platter, a regional delicacies platter and fresh fruit are set out for you to graze on throughout the sail. You also get a welcome drink, water and soft drinks. If you want to get in the water, snorkeling gear is there if you ask for it beforehand, and paddle boards work the same way. The skipper and sailor handle all the sailing. Your job is to relax, eat, drink and decide whether you want to swim or stay aboard.
A guide fluent in English, Spanish or Portuguese is part of the crew, so you'll hear about what you're passing. Service animals are welcome, and the boat works for all fitness levels since there's no requirement to do anything but sit and enjoy the view.
