Step-by-step itinerary
Coastal boat tour and beach views
- Cruise along Ponta da Piedade coastline
- Admire rock formations and sea caves
- Visit Praia Dona Ana beach viewpoint
- See Praia do Camilo and walk tunnel
- Enjoy panoramic cliff views
The Experience
The tour departs from Lagos and heads straight to the Ponta da Piedade headland, where the limestone cliffs drop to turquoise water. A professional local guide narrates in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French or German as the modern boat cruises the narrow passages—the Siamese Twins, the Arc of Triumph, the Corridor—each one framed by golden rock. The boat is built for comfort, with padded seats and room to move between the bow and stern as the coastline changes.
You'll enter the interiors of several sea caves: the Cathedral, the Kitchen, the Living Room. Each one is a hollow carved into the cliff face by winter storms, and the guide points out how the rock formations took their names—the Elephant, the Camel, the Gorilla, the Titanic, the Doll, the Scale. The boat slows at each named beach and cove: Dona Ana (protected by rocks and named after a nun who escaped through a tunnel during World War I), Camilo (accessed by wooden staircase and divided by a tunnel through a massive rock), Pinhão, Praia Grande, Barranco Martinho. You see them from the water, not from the sand, which changes what you notice—the scale of the cliffs, the color of the stone, the way the sea moves around the formations.
The tour runs roughly an hour. Public transportation stops are nearby if you're traveling without a car, and the boat welcomes service animals. Gratuities for the guide are optional.

Is this one for you?The boat does the navigating and the timing—you don't have to find the caves or time the tides, and the guide names what you're looking at as it passes. This works for anyone traveling without a car or without time to plan a separate boat rental.

What are the sea caves like inside, and can you swim in them?
The Cathedral, Kitchen and Living Room are hollows carved into the cliff by storms, and the boat enters them so you see the interior walls and the way light filters through openings. Swimming is not part of the tour—you stay aboard the boat and view them from the water.
How long is the boat ride, and is it rough if the sea is choppy?
The tour lasts roughly an hour on the water. The Ponta da Piedade coast is exposed and can be windy, but the boat is modern and built for comfort with padded seating; the guide will advise if conditions make departure unsafe.
What beaches do you see on this tour?
Dona Ana, Camilo, Pinhão, Praia Grande and Barranco Martinho are all visible from the boat as it cruises the coast. Dona Ana is the largest beach in the area and protected by rocks; Camilo is accessed by a wooden staircase from the clifftop and divided by a tunnel through rock.
Is the guide commentary in English?
The guide offers live commentary in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and German, switching between languages as passengers board.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the boat, or is pickup included?
Hotel pickup is not included, but public transportation options are available near the departure point in Lagos.
