The Experience
Two and a half hours is the window between leaving the dock and the light going soft. The boat leaves Funchal and heads out along the coast while the sun is still high enough to cast a shadow. You swim when the water is warmest and the sky is starting to shift — not before, not after. The open bar runs the whole time: water, juices, beer and wine, plus finger foods. A paddle board sits on deck if you want to use it instead of swimming.
Snorkelling equipment is on board and ready. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese and can point out what lives in the water around Madeira if you want to know. The boat has a restroom and WiFi, so you can stay connected or step away from it. If you want a full meal instead of finger foods, the chef prepares a gourmet menu for 60 euros per person — book this a few days ahead when you reserve the tour.
