Riddles guide you between landmarks while you set the pace and the hour.

A self-guided walking tour of Cascais using an app-based scavenger hunt with riddles, trivia and photo tasks to navigate between the Marina de Cascais, Praia de Santa Marta and Palacete Seixas. You start anytime from Avenida Valbom in the town centre, walk at your own pace with no fixed schedule, and compete on a leaderboard scored against other players. Around two hours of walking on cobbles and sand, fully flexible. Take breaks when you want, skip nothing, and finish whenever suits you.

The experience

You arrive at Avenida Valbom in central Cascais with a charged smartphone and a six-digit game code texted to you after booking. Open the Explorial app, enter the code, and the riddles begin. The route is entirely self-guided: no guide meets you, no group waits for stragglers, and you move at whatever pace keeps you interested. The app marks locations on a map so you always know where you are, and riddles nudge you toward the next stop rather than spelling out directions.

The Marina de Cascais opens the route: 650 berths of boats beside the old citadel, where riddles weave between the fishing village's roots and the regatta money that followed. From there you drop down to Praia de Santa Marta, a pocket beach under the blue-striped lighthouse and the Condes de Castro Guimarães palace: the kind of cove that stops you mid-stride to take a photo. The Palacete Seixas comes next, a reminder of the era when exiled royalty and Bond's creator loitered on this coastline. Each stop carries a riddle, a trivia challenge or a photo task that earns points on the leaderboard. You compete against other players in your group and against the city's high score, all of it served with a sea view.

The walk takes around two hours of ocean air and cobbles, but the timer is yours alone. Take a break at a café, linger at the lighthouse, walk the beach twice, the app waits. Available in 24 languages including English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, so you choose the language when you start. Groups up to 15 people book as one. Larger parties make multiple bookings. You'll need an active mobile data connection and a fully charged phone. Disable any VPN before you start, as it can disconnect the app.
