Albufeira Food Tour: Portuguese Tapas & Wine Tasting
Eat your way through Albufeira's local flavors, one tapa at a time
A Portuguese tapas and wine tasting in Albufeira where you sample local cheeses, charcuterie, octopus, squid, cod and other seasonal dishes paired with two glasses of Portuguese wine and firewater, finishing with pastel de nata. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. The experience runs about two hours and is suitable for all fitness levels, though it's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy or cardiovascular concerns.
The Experience
You get picked up at your hotel in Albufeira and taken to eat the way locals do—not a restaurant tour, but a tasting that moves through Portuguese tapas one plate at a time. The menu shifts with the season and what's available, but you'll work through bread, cheeses and charcuterie first, then move into the sea tapas: cod, squid, octopus, clams. Meat follows—pica-pau beef, chicken wings, pork—each one a small, intense bite meant to be savored with wine rather than rushed through.
Two glasses of Portuguese wine come paired with the tapas, chosen to match what you're tasting. At the end, the firewater arrives—a traditional Portuguese spirit that clears the palate—followed by pastel de nata, the custard tart that finishes almost every meal here. The whole thing takes about two hours from pickup to drop-off, which means you're back at your hotel with time left in the afternoon.
