The Experience

Someone’s waving a neon wristband at me — turns out that’s our guide, Piotr. He’s got this easy grin and a way of making you feel like you’ve known him for ages, even though we just met outside Wroclaw Market Square. There’s already a small group gathering: two girls from Spain, a couple from Berlin, and me (awkwardly trying to remember everyone’s names). We start walking past these old brick facades that look kind of magical at night. The air smells like rain on cobblestones — not sure why but it makes everything feel more alive.

First stop is this tiny bar tucked under an archway. Piotr slides us our first welcome shot (vodka — what else?) and sets up some drinking game I barely understand but somehow lose anyway. The music is loud enough to make conversation tricky but not impossible. There’s laughter bouncing off the walls, and someone points out a little bronze dwarf statue by the door — apparently “dwarf spotting” is part of the pub crawl challenge here in Wroclaw. I try to say its Polish name and get it all wrong; Marta (from Madrid) laughs so hard she almost spills her drink.

We hop through four or five places, each one with its own vibe — one has sticky tables and cheap beer, another is all red lights and thumping bass. Somewhere along the way Piotr hands out another round of free shots (I lost count), and by now people are swapping stories about their hometowns or weird travel mishaps. The walk between bars isn’t long, maybe five minutes tops, but it’s enough for the cold to wake you up a bit before diving back into the next spot. I didn’t expect to actually enjoy the walking part so much — there’s something about seeing Wroclaw at night with strangers who start feeling less like strangers.

The last stop is a club near the square where we skip the line (felt slightly smug about that). Inside it’s sweaty and loud and honestly kind of perfect if you’re in the mood to dance badly without anyone caring. I left sometime after 2am with my ears ringing and shoes sticky from spilled drinks, still thinking about how many little moments made up that night — Marta’s laugh, Piotr teaching us Polish cheers (“na zdrowie!”), those silly dwarves everywhere. So yeah… if you’re looking for a real Wroclaw pub crawl with actual people and not just Instagram photos, this was it for me.
