The experience

The morning starts at your hotel, where pickup brings you to the Warsaw Uprising Museum. Inside, you stand in front of a wall that holds the heartbeat of the 1944 insurgency: original weapons, clothes, armbands and field telephones sit alongside multimedia displays that piece together the memories of the people who fought. A short course in World War II history frames what you're seeing, and then comes the rare 3D film "City of Ruins," which shows Warsaw as it looked after the bombardment. You'll learn why the entire city stops for one minute every August 1st at 5:00 pm, a silence that still marks the day the uprising began.

After the museum, the tour moves to the Polish Vodka Museum at KONESER. An instructor guides you through the history of alcohol production in this part of Europe from the 15th century to today, and explains why Polish vodka earned its reputation. You take part in multimedia workshops on how different spirits are made, then taste several types of vodka while learning the similarities and differences between them. The guide speaks English throughout, so the tasting becomes a conversation about production methods and regional variations rather than a silent sampling.

Hotel drop-off ends the tour. All museum tickets, transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the guide are included. You bring only yourself and a willingness to stand for a few hours.
