The experience
The Eagles' Nests Trail is a 164-kilometer route threading through two voivodeships, named for the castles and strongholds that cling to rocks rising 30 meters above the landscape. This tour picks the most visited sites along it, starting from Krakow and moving through the Krakow-Czestochowa Upland. You travel by air-conditioned minivan with a professional guide who provides live commentary in English, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included in the price.
The day opens near Krakow with a stop at Zakrzowek and a pass through Ojców National Park, where you'll see the castle at Korzkiew. From there the route moves to Pieskowa Skała Castle, where you walk the courtyard and climb the observation tower. The Hercules Club rock formation rises nearby. The ruins at Rabsztyn and Ogrodzieniec follow. Both have been adapted for public access, and the views from the towers are the draw. Ogrodzieniec has gained attention as a filming location for The Witcher series. On the approach you stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Błędowska Desert, Europe's only desert. The tour closes at Mirów and Bobolice castles, which sit near each other. Bobolice has been recently rebuilt and opened to visitors.
Entry to all sites is included, as is transport and the guide. The tour runs in all weather, so dress for conditions. Service animals are allowed, and specialized infant seats are available if you're traveling with small children.
