Tagaytay Ridge Tour: Taal Volcano Views & Farm Visit
A lake inside a volcano inside a lake inside a volcano, and you see it all from one ridge.
This guided tour departs Manila for Tagaytay Ridge, a mountain town 2,200 feet above sea level in Cavite province, where you see Taal Volcano and Taal Lake from multiple vantage points. The day includes a one-hour farm tour at Gourmet Farms to watch vegetables, herbs and coffee beans being grown; a visit to Museo Orlina to view glass sculptures by artist Ramon Orlina; and time at the Palace in the Sky, an abandoned presidential rest house with panoramic views of the lake and volcano. A local English-speaking guide leads the tour, transport is by air-conditioned vehicle, lunch is included, and hotel pickup is available from selected Manila hotels.

The experience
What makes Tagaytay worth the drive from Manila is the ridge itself: at 2,200 feet above sea level, it sits high enough to give you a view most of the Philippines doesn't have. You're looking down at Taal Lake, and inside that lake sits Taal Volcano, and inside that volcano sits another lake. The tour builds around this geography, moving between three stops that each frame the same landscape differently. A local guide travels with you the whole way, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles the climb out of Manila.
The farm tour at Gourmet Farms runs an hour and shows you how the vegetables, herbs and coffee beans that end up on Tagaytay tables actually grow. From there you move to Museo Orlina, where you walk through glass sculptures by the artist Ramon Orlina and works by other artists: the collection fills the museum and gives you a reason to spend time indoors before heading to the Palace in the Sky. That's the former rest house of President Ferdinand Marcos, abandoned now but still standing on the ridge with the lake and volcano spread out below it. Lunch happens during the day, and the whole tour runs seven hours from the time you leave Manila.
Hotel pickup is included if your hotel is in Makati City or Manila City proper. If you're staying elsewhere, you make your own way to the New World Renaissance Hotel in Makati at least 15 minutes before departure. Children from age 5 are welcome, and the operator recommends comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen. The tour suits all fitness levels, though the ridge itself means some elevation and a fair amount of standing and walking between stops.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (5 to 9 years). Under 5: they can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is Taal Volcano, and why is it famous?
Taal Volcano is the smallest active volcano in the world, and it sits inside Taal Lake. The lake itself sits inside a larger volcanic caldera, creating the nested geography you see from Tagaytay Ridge: a lake within a volcano within a lake within a volcano. From the ridge 2,200 feet above, you get a clear view of the whole formation.
How long does the farm tour take, and what will I see there?
The farm tour at Gourmet Farms runs one hour. You watch how vegetables, herbs and coffee beans are grown and harvested, which gives you a sense of what Tagaytay's farming actually looks like and where the local produce comes from.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the meeting point?
Hotel pickup is included if you're staying in Makati City or Manila City proper. If your hotel is outside those areas, you'll need to make your own way to the New World Renaissance Hotel in Makati and arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour departs.
