The experience
After pickup from your Manila or Makati hotel in the morning, you'll drive an hour through the countryside to Hidden Valley Springs Resort in Alaminos, Laguna province. The resort sits in a 110-acre volcanic crater, 300 feet deep, formed thousands of years ago between Mt Makiling and Mt Banahaw. Your guide leads you on foot through the crater, where rare orchids and more than 153 species of endangered plant life grow on the slopes: most of them found nowhere else in the region.
The walk brings you to the resort's natural hot springs, a series of heated volcanic pools fed by the mountain. You can soak as long as you want, listening to water cascade down the mountainside and palms sway overhead. At midday, a buffet lunch of traditional Filipino dishes is served at the resort. Most people take another dip in the springs afterward before heading back to Manila, arriving at your hotel relaxed and with the day still ahead of you.
