The experience
James, an American guide living in the Philippines since 2019, designs each tour around what you actually want to do that day. You start with pickup in an air-conditioned Hyundai Tucson SUV with a sun and moonroof, and the itinerary shifts based on your energy, interests and the weather. There's no fixed schedule pushing you through stops. If you want to linger at a waterfall or skip a location entirely, that's how the day works.
Balinsasayao Twin Lakes sits in a cool mountain reserve with gentle walking paths, scenic viewpoints and an observation tower overlooking both crater lakes (weather permitting). Hiking to the second lake is optional. You can also explore the Fern Sanctuary or rest at the on-site restaurant. Pulángbato Falls drops into red rock formations surrounded by lush greenery, and you can swim beneath it if you bring a swimsuit and water shoes, or simply sit and watch. Time here stretches or compresses based on what appeals to you.
Baslay Coffee Forest is where the day often becomes a favorite memory. You walk a shaded 30-minute trail through coffee plants, wild rattan and pine forest (optional), then settle into a three-story bamboo open-air lodge with views across the mountains to the ocean and Apo Island. All the coffee is sourced, roasted and brewed on-site. Valencia, a cool mountain town just outside Dumaguete, rounds out the day with options like Forest Camp's swimming pools and shaded paths, Casaroro Falls deep in the forest, the sulfur steam vents at Mag-Aso, or the red rock hot springs: each one adjustable to your comfort and interest.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between the small group and large group options for this tour?
Small groups are one to four people. Large groups are five to eight. Both travel in the same air-conditioned vehicle and follow the same flexible itinerary. The price shown is per group, not per person, so larger groups split the cost across more travelers.
Can I swim at Pulángbato Falls, and what do I need to bring?
Swimming at Pulángbato Falls is completely optional and up to your comfort level. If you want to swim, bring a swimsuit and water shoes for the rocks. Towels are available to rent on-site, or bring your own.
Is the hike to the second lake at Balinsasayao Twin Lakes required?
No. Hiking is optional and never required. The visit adjusts based on your comfort, energy level and conditions. You can enjoy the scenic viewpoints, gentle walking paths and the Fern Sanctuary without any hiking at all.
What's included in the price, and what costs extra?
Private transportation and the air-conditioned vehicle are included. Food, drinks and admission fees to the sites are not included in the tour price. The guide can recommend where to eat and drink at each stop.
How long does this tour actually take?
The tour runs six to eight hours depending on which stops you choose, how long you want to spend at each one, and your pace. There's no set schedule. You control how the day unfolds.
What is Baslay Coffee Forest like, and is the walk through it difficult?
Baslay Coffee Forest is a working coffee farm with a three-story bamboo open-air lodge overlooking the mountains, ocean and Apo Island. All coffee is roasted and brewed on-site. The optional 30-minute trail walk is shaded and light, passing through coffee plants, wild rattan and pine forest. You can skip the walk and simply relax in the lodge with coffee and snacks.
