The experience
The route heads south from Oxapampa toward Villa Rica, stopping first at the Paucartambo Bridge to see the boundary between Junín and Pasco regions. You'll pass the entrance monument to Villa Rica before reaching the main square, where the world's largest coffee maker stands. The guide leads the way through each stop, and the full circuit takes nine hours door to door.
Coffee is the core of the day. You'll visit one of the valley's coffee farms, where the owners walk you through the stages of growth and production, then teach you how to taste real coffee: a cupping session with samples of artisan products from the area. After lunch in Villa Rica (your own choice of restaurant), the tour moves to the Mirador del Oconal viewpoint for a panoramic view of the valley, then down to the León Waterfall, where you can swim in the fresh water. The Oconal wetland offers ichthyotherapy, a relaxation activity using small fish, and a rowing boat ride if you want it (optional, separate cost). The day ends with a stop at artisan shops before the return to Oxapampa.
A canopy in the Churumazú sector is available as an optional add-on for those who want to de-stress on a roughly 1,000-meter line. The waterfall entrance fee is separate. Infants travel on an adult's lap, and the pace suits all fitness levels.
