A 2-day guided tour of the Sacred Valley from Cusco covers Pisac's archaeological site and colonial town, the Inkariy Museum, Moray's Inca terraces, the salt mines of Maras, and Ollantaytambo's streets and temple ruins. Private transport, hotel pickup, all entry fees and lunch both days are included; the guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or Portuguese. Children from age 12 are welcome. Overnight accommodation in the Sacred Valley is not included but can be arranged separately.
The Experience
Day one starts at Pisac, an Inca town built high above the colonial settlement below. You walk the terraces and the town itself, then have time to browse the artisan fair and silversmiths' workshops. The Inkariy Museum comes next, with rooms displaying pre-Hispanic cultures of ancient Peru. After lunch, you visit the Centro de Cultura Viva de Yucay, where local people demonstrate weaving, dyeing, adobe-making and the preparation of chicha, a traditional corn drink — and you meet llamas and alpacas in the Andean highlands.
Day two takes you to Moray, where concentric Inca terraces descend into a natural amphitheater. The Incas built this as an agricultural laboratory to test 20 different microclimates and ensure crop production across the empire. From there you drive to Maras, a town built around ancient salt mines that have been worked since pre-Columbian times. The white salt wells contrast sharply with the clay-colored earth, making it one of the most photographed landscapes in the valley. Lunch is included again. The afternoon ends in Ollantaytambo, the last living Inca town, where you walk the streets and squares, then climb to the archaeological site above the town to see the Temple of the Sun and the stonework technique the Incas used to fit blocks without mortar.
Your guide travels with you both days in a private vehicle, and hotel pickup and drop-off in Cusco or the Sacred Valley are included. The itinerary is built to end in Ollantaytambo, which positions you to board a train to Machu Picchu the following day if you wish.
