The Experience

“Don’t rush — the mountain’s not going anywhere,” our guide Julio grinned as we shuffled out of the van in Cusipata, still half-asleep and clutching coca tea. I was expecting cold, but not that sharp bite in the air — my breath came out in little clouds while locals set up breakfast tables under faded tarps. The bread was warm, eggs salty, and someone had brought a jar of homemade jam that tasted like tart plums. Julio handed out trekking sticks and checked if anyone needed extra oxygen.
