You fly tandem with a pilot who handles the wing while you experience the desert from the air.

Paragliding over Huacachina pairs you with a certified pilot for a tandem flight over the Peruvian desert dunes. After meeting at Huacachina, you walk to a buggy that drives to the takeoff point (location depends on wind), where the pilot prepares the equipment and briefs you on safety. The flight lasts 12 to 15 minutes and includes 360° video of your aerial view. No experience is required, and the activity suits solo travelers, couples and groups. Weight must fall between 35 kg and 110 kg.

The experience

The day starts at your meeting point in Huacachina. A 10-minute walk takes you to the buggy, which drives uphill to the takeoff zone: either above the oasis or deeper into the desert, depending on wind conditions that day. Your certified pilot handles the equipment setup and walks you through each step, so confidence builds before you leave the ground.

Once airborne, the flight runs 12 to 15 minutes. From that height, the dunes spread below in a way no ground view offers. The 360° video captures what you see so you can relive it later. The landing happens near the flight area, and the whole activity, from meeting point to landing, takes around 90 minutes.

Wear comfortable clothes, sandals, sunglasses and a windbreaker. Bring sunscreen. Children from age 8 are welcome. The activity is open to all fitness levels, though it is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. You'll need to arrange your own transport from your accommodation to the meeting point in Huacachina.
