The experience

You start with a mountain bike suited to the terrain, a helmet, gloves, knee and elbow pads, and a guide who leads the group on routes that work for both novice and experienced riders. The choice is yours: pedal cross-country style on dirt roads, or tackle single tracks if you want downhill riding. The volcanic land around Arequipa holds the landscape steady all year, so the conditions don't shift with the season.

El Misti Volcano and Pichu Pichu frame the ride from different angles as you move through the hills and fields at their base. Pichu Pichu itself has five distinct peaks running north to south as part of the southern volcanic range, and being near it opens views back toward Misti and Chachani Mountain beyond. A support vehicle travels with the group for the full six hours, so you're never far from help or a place to rest.

This is a group departure, so you'll ride with other travelers. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one additional language, and you'll need at least a moderate level of fitness to keep pace. Bring your own biking shoes, clothes, water and snacks. Everything else (bike, pads, helmet, gloves and the guide) is there waiting.
