The experience
If you have a free afternoon in Tarapoto, this tour fills it with stops across Lamas that most visitors miss on their own. The guide picks you up from your hotel and drives you through the San Martín region to the town's main square, where you walk and take in the traditional architecture. From there, the route climbs to the Third-Floor Viewpoint, where the guide explains the history and cultural heritage of the area, then continues to Lamas Castle, a medieval-style landmark perched on a hill with views across the lush landscape.
The second half of the tour moves into the living culture. You travel to Wayku, a small settlement where the Quechua Lamista Native Community welcomes visitors. Here you watch a presentation of traditional dances, learn about local customs and everyday life, and have time to look at and buy handicrafts made by people in the community.
