The route crosses the Huascarán National Park and passes through the Cahuish tunnel at 4,516 meters before descending into the Conchucos valley. You visit the stone galleries including the Lanzón de Chavín, ceremonial squares and carved heads, then the on-site museum with ceramics and archaeological pieces. The experience

The tour leaves Huaraz at 9 a.m. and heads southeast through Recuay, Ticapampa and Catac before entering the Huascarán National Park. The drive takes you past Querococha lake, where you stop for photographs at 3,980 meters above sea level. The geological fault visible from the shore traces the outline of Peru. At Chavín de Huántar, the guide leads you through an impressive network of underground galleries built around 2000 BC, including the Lanzón de Chavín (a carved stone monolith), ceremonial squares, the Cabeza Clava (carved stone heads), the Altar of Choquechinchay and the Portico of the Falcónidas. After the archaeological site, you visit the on-site museum to see ceramics, carved heads and other pieces recovered from the monument. Lunch happens in the town of Chavín at 2 p.m., then the return journey to Huaraz begins at 3 p.m., arriving around 7:30 p.m.
