Six to eight hours a day across two relaxed routes through Inca sites and working salt mines.

A 2-day private tour of the Sacred Valley departing from Urubamba with private transportation, a live guide in English, Spanish, Italian or French, and pickup included. The itinerary splits the region across two days: Day 1 covers Ollantaytambo and Moray Agricultural Terraces. Day 2 visits Chinchero, the Maras Salt Pools and a weaver co-op: keeping each day to 6–8 hours so you have time to absorb each place without exhaustion. The guide knows the timing and sequence that avoids crowds and the altitude is lower in Urubamba than in Cusco, easing acclimatization before heading to Machu Picchu.

The experience

Day 1 starts at Ollantaytambo, the living Inca city where the original architecture and urban layout survive from Inca times. You walk through the archaeological site to a religious complex built on a mountainside, then descend into the town's streets. From there you move to Moray Agricultural Terraces, an Inca administrative and production center where enormous concentric terraces step down the mountainside. The guide explains the technology the Incas developed to farm at altitude, and you see an Inca cemetery and the water fountains used for ceremonies and irrigation. The day ends in Pisac, where you visit a silver workshop to watch artisans at work, then have free time to walk the town and market if you choose.

Day 2 takes you to Chinchero, a site mixing Inca palace architecture with a 400-year-old colonial church, and to a weaver co-op where you watch traditional textile techniques using natural dyes and plants. The centerpiece is Maras Salt Pools, an active salt mine worked continuously since Inca times, over 600 years, where the guide walks you through the extraction process and the site's history. You finish at Moray Agricultural Terraces again, this time focusing on its role as an experimental laboratory where Incas tested crops that wouldn't grow at high altitude. Optional stops include a chicheria for traditional Inca corn beer (tip-based) and a local brewery offering six beer samples for a small fee.

The tour is entirely private, so the guide adjusts the pace and order to your preferences. Pickup is included from your Urubamba accommodation. Because Urubamba sits about 800 meters lower than Cusco, starting here gives you a gentler altitude acclimatization before moving higher or onward to Machu Picchu.
