Summary

Musandam Fjords Boat Trip: Dolphin Watching & Island Stops

You’ll spend a relaxed day cruising Musandam’s fjords on a traditional dhow—swimming at two islands, spotting dolphins, enjoying Omani food, and seeing real village life along the way.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I still remember the first time I stepped onto that old wooden dhow in Khasab—the deck smelled faintly of sea and cardamom from the Omani coffee brewing nearby. Our guide, Ahmed, greeted us with a grin and a cup of strong tea. The cushions were soft underfoot, and as we set off into the Musandam fjords, you could feel the air shift—cooler out on the water, with just a hint of salt on your lips.

We cruised past tiny fishing villages like Nadifi and Maqlab—honestly, some of them looked like they hadn’t changed in decades. You’ll spot fishermen mending nets or waving from their boats. Around mid-morning, dolphins started playing near our bow; Ahmed said they show up most days if you’re lucky. The boat slowed at Telegraph Island for our first swim stop. The water’s clear here—almost glassy—and snorkeling gear was ready for anyone keen to jump in. I saw schools of small fish darting around the rocks below.

Lunch was simple but filling: fried rice, chicken, hummus, salad, and warm khubz bread. There’s always fresh fruit and more tea if you want it. After eating (and maybe a nap on those cushions), we headed to Seebi Island for another swim. The sun felt strong by then—don’t forget your hat! On the way back, we passed more villages and watched seabirds swoop low over the water. There’s a basic toilet and shower on board if you need it; nothing fancy but it does the job.
