Step-by-step itinerary
Half day mountain safari to Jebel Harim
- Khor Najd photo stop at 400m altitude
- Saya Village photo stop at 1200m altitude
- Fossil Area photo stop at 1700m altitude
The experience
The drive starts at sea level and climbs through three distinct zones. First comes Khor Najd at 400 meters, a photo stop overlooking the water. Then Saya Village at 1200 meters sits in the farming area, where the landscape shifts to terraced fields. The final stop is the Fossil Area at 1700 meters, where the rocks themselves tell the story: mollusks, fish, clams and trilobites that lived on an ancient seafloor now sit exposed near the summit of one of Arabia's highest mountains, a geological contradiction that makes the site remarkable.
Jebel Harim's name comes from its history: local women would retreat to caves higher up the mountain to escape pirates and rival tribes during the extended fishing and trading expeditions of their menfolk. The actual radar station at the summit is off-limits, but the road itself delivers all-around views back toward Khasab and onward to Dibba, with the Straits of Hormuz visible far below. The route is driven in an air-conditioned vehicle with a guide who speaks your language and stops are timed for photographs rather than long walks.
