Ziplining in Skjolden: Three lines over a glacier canyon
Three descents into a canyon, then a motorized ride back up each time
Ziplining in Skjolden takes you across three separate lines strung over a deep glacier river canyon, each one a different angle and distance. You leap into the void on each run, freefall as gravity pulls you down, then a motorized pulley engages and lifts you back up to the platform while you hang suspended and take in the view. The whole experience runs about two hours and suits ages four and up.

The experience
The canyon itself is the draw here. Your first zipline runs 250 meters alongside the ravine upstream, giving you the length of the drop and the width of the space below. The second crosses straight over the canyon for 100 meters to the highest point. Then comes the third and longest: 300 meters back downstream and downhill, the one that gives you the full rush of gravity pulling you faster and faster until the pulley motor kicks in and reverses the direction, carrying you up and back to solid ground.
What makes this different from a standard zipline is the motorized pulley. You don't brake or slow yourself down manually. Instead, you freefall until you're moving slower than 2 meters per second, and then the motor engages and hauls you back up the other side of the wire. That means you get the adrenaline of the drop and then a moment of stillness suspended in the void, where you can actually look around and absorb the glacier river canyon instead of bracing for impact. The whole sequence repeats on each of the three lines.
A guide leads the experience in English and handles the setup and safety checks. You'll wear a helmet and harness throughout. The activity takes roughly two hours from start to finish.
