The experience
Two hours on the water means you cover ground fast. The RIBs are built for these narrow fjords: shallow enough to reach the secluded inlets where mountain farms cling to the rock and wildlife moves through the landscape. Your guide speaks English and knows the history of the places you pass. The speed is part of the point, not a side effect. You're not watching from a distance. You're moving through the fjord itself, close enough to spot what lives there.
The thermal suit, life jacket and goggles come with you. Bring clothes to wear underneath the suit, and sunglasses and sunscreen if the weather is clear. The boat handles the spray. The suit handles the cold water and wind. Public transport runs near the departure point, so you don't need a rental car to get there. The height minimum is 140cm. The trip suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy or cardiovascular concerns.

Is this one for you?Small groups travel together on the same RIB, so you share the experience with other travelers. The speed and spray suit anyone comfortable with an active, fast-paced boat ride through open water. If you prefer a slower pace or calmer conditions, a traditional fjord cruise would be a better fit.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What wildlife might I see on the Hjørundfjord rafting trip?
The guide scouts for wildlife as part of the journey through the secluded fjords and around the mountain farms, though sightings depend on the day and season. The trip is built around being close to nature and the landscape itself rather than a guaranteed animal encounter.
How cold is the water, and will the thermal suit keep me dry?
The thermal suit is designed to keep you warm in cold fjord water and wind, not to keep you completely dry. Spray and splash are part of a RIB experience. The suit protects you from the chill.
Can I bring my own waterproof shoes, or do I need to wear what you provide?
Waterproof shoes are not included with the trip, so bring your own if you want them. The thermal suit covers most of your body. Many travelers wear regular shoes and accept they will get wet.
How far is the departure point from Alesund, and do I need to arrange my own transport?
Public transportation options are available near the departure point, so you can reach it without renting a car. The operator does not provide hotel pickup or transfers as part of this rafting trip.
What makes Hjørundfjord different from other fjords in the region?
Hjørundfjord is described as arguably the wildest fjord in the North, with secluded inlets and historic mountain farms tucked into the landscape. The RIB's speed and shallow draft let you reach these remote corners in a way larger boats cannot.
