The experience

From there the route moves to Bryggen, the merchants' quarter that dates back to 1360 and now sits on UNESCO's World Heritage list. You walk among its narrow wooden buildings (painted in the reds, yellows and greens that make the district unmistakable), while the guide explains why Bergen was once Norway's capital and what these structures meant to the Hanseatic traders who built them. The Bergerhus fortress comes next, another historical layer where you learn about the kings who lived there when Bergen held real power.

The final stop is a restaurant downtown where you choose from three traditional dishes: fish soup in the Norwegian style, pickled whale, plukfish, or typical roast meat and meatballs. The guide is Spanish-speaking throughout, and the pace is built for walking and tasting, not rushing. Children under 4 don't pay but also don't receive food. Everyone else eats at each stop.
