The experience
Day one starts before dawn with a guided hike to Preikestolen, the iconic cliff platform that juts 604 meters above the fjord. The early timing beats the crowds and leaves the afternoon free for a cruise along the full length of Lysefjorden, where you see both Preikestolen and Kjerag from the water, plus the Flørli Stairs and other landmarks carved into the rock. You'll have time to explore the quiet nature at the fjord's end before a two-course dinner and an overnight stay in private rooms at Lysefjorden Turisthytte, a small lodge right on the water in Lysebotn.
Day two begins with a buffet breakfast, then a drive up the famous 27 hairpin turns of Lyseveien to the Kjerag trailhead. Your guide leads a safe, educational hike through some of Norway's most dramatic landscapes to one of the country's most spectacular viewpoints. For those willing, you can stand at the edge of cliffs that drop 1,000 meters straight to the fjord below, or balance on the Kjerag Boulder, a massive stone wedged between two cliff faces. The hike is physically demanding and requires a high level of fitness. The guide manages the pace and safety throughout.
The tour runs as a small group with a live guide in English or Norwegian. Children are welcome from age 13. Pickup is included from Stavanger, and all transport, meals, and accommodation are covered. You bring only what you need for two days of hiking and overnight gear.

What is Preikestolen and why do people hike there so early?
Preikestolen, or Pulpit Rock, is a flat cliff platform 604 meters above Lysefjorden. The early morning start gets you to the top before the crowds arrive, so you have the viewpoint largely to yourself and can take photos and rest without the noise and congestion that builds through the day.
