The experience

The tour runs in two time slots: 6 to 8 am at sunrise, when few people are around and the light is at its best, or 8 to 10 am when the fields are in full bloom and the sun is still low. You meet at Nieuw-Vennep train station or your Amsterdam hotel, then drive about 10 minutes to Hillegom. From there you walk or bike through the tulip and narcissus fields, you decide which, while the guide photographs the scenery and you in it, capturing up to 30 shots across two cameras. The whole shoot takes roughly 80 minutes, then you head back to the parking area.

After the tour, you can be dropped at Keukenhof (which opens at 8 am if you want to spend the rest of your morning there), at a bus station to return to Amsterdam, or at Leidsestraat in Hillegom. All photographs are edited and sent to you via WeTransfer within a few days. If you want to bike instead of walk, let the guide know your height and how often you cycle when you book, and bikes are available to rent for an additional fee.

Is this one for you?Small groups of up to a handful of people work best here, since the guide is managing photography and pacing for everyone at once. The early 6 am slot suits anyone who wants solitude and soft light. The 8 am departure is better if you want to see the fields in full color and then spend the rest of your morning at Keukenhof.
