The Escape Tour Amersfoort is a self-guided citygame where teams of 2–4 people solve riddles, decipher puzzles and complete photo assignments on their own smartphones to locate the secret exit within two hours. You receive all instructions by email in advance, start whenever you choose, and play in either English or Dutch. One ticket covers a team. Larger groups purchase multiple tickets.

The experience

You arrive in Amersfoort with a free afternoon and no set plan. Download the app, open your email for the instructions, and you're ready to start whenever the group is ready. The game sends you through the city following clues on your phone, and you solve each riddle or puzzle to unlock the next location. There's no guide waiting, no meeting point to find, and no fixed departure time. Just you, your team and the hunt for the exit.

The game runs for about two hours if you work through it straight, though you can pause and pick it up later the same day. As you move through Amersfoort, you'll decipher written puzzles, answer questions about what you see, and take photos to prove you've reached certain spots. Each correct answer points you toward the next clue. The app keeps you on track, so you don't need to navigate separately or worry about getting lost between stops.

If your team solves all the riddles and finds the exit in time, you earn a spot on the Wall of Fame. The game is wheelchair accessible, and public transport runs nearby if you'd rather not walk the whole route. You'll need a moderate level of fitness to move around the city, and everyone on the team should have access to the smartphone where the app is running.

You start whenever you're ready. The instructions arrive by email before you play, so there's no instructor on site and no fixed departure. You control the timing.

How many people do I need on my team to play?

Teams are 2 to 4 people, and you buy one ticket per team. If six people want to play together, you'd purchase two tickets and split into two teams.
