experience

What’s the experience like?

Landing in Kathmandu always feels a bit like stepping into another world—the air’s got that mix of incense and city dust. Our guide met us right outside arrivals, easy to spot with a small sign. We loaded up the van and headed east, out past the city noise. The road to Nagarkot winds through little villages where kids wave at passing cars. By late afternoon, we reached our hotel perched above terraced fields. The sky was already turning gold. Locals say the best sunset spot is just a short walk from the main road—our guide led us there, and honestly, you can see why people come all this way just for that view. It gets chilly fast after dark up here, so pack a jacket.

The next morning started before dawn—Nagarkot’s famous for its sunrise over the Himalayas. I remember standing on the balcony with a cup of sweet Nepali tea, watching as Annapurna and Everest slowly appeared out of the haze. After breakfast (simple but filling—eggs, toast, strong coffee), we hit the road south to Chitwan. It’s a long drive but you get to see how quickly Nepal changes: mountains give way to flat jungle land. In Chitwan town, our new guide greeted us with a big smile and checked us into a family-run hotel where lunch was already waiting—dal bhat, spicy pickles, fresh papad.

Chitwan National Park is something else entirely—lush and loud with bird calls you don’t hear anywhere else. We climbed into an open jeep for safari; saw rhinos grazing near water holes and even caught sight of a crocodile sunning itself by the riverbank. Later that day, we tried canoeing along the Rapti River—peaceful except for the occasional splash from fish jumping or monkeys rustling in the trees overhead. Evening brought a Tharu cultural dance show at a nearby village hall; it’s touristy but fun, especially when they invite everyone up to join in.

After two nights in Chitwan (all meals included—don’t miss their homemade yogurt at breakfast), we drove west toward Pokhara. The scenery shifts again: rice paddies everywhere and distant peaks peeking through clouds. Pokhara feels laid-back compared to Kathmandu—a lakeside town where everything moves slower. Early next morning, our driver took us up to Sarangkot before sunrise; it’s chilly but worth it for those first pink rays lighting up Machapuchare (“Fishtail” mountain). Back in town after breakfast, we visited Bindhyabasini Temple (lots of bells ringing), watched water disappear into Devi’s Fall (locals call it Patale Chhango), ducked inside Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave (bring a flashlight), and stopped by Seti Gorge—a narrow slice of white river cutting through stone.

The last day was mostly about getting back to Kathmandu—a short flight over green hills and patchwork farms below. Our driver picked us up at Tribhuvan Airport and dropped us at our hotel for one last night in the city before heading home. If you’ve got time before your flight out, grab momos from any street stall—they’re cheap and always hot.
