The experience
The morning starts at a meeting point in downtown Yangon, where your guide picks you up and takes you to one of the hidden local markets. You shop alongside vendors and locals, selecting the ingredients you'll cook with later. The guide shows you what traditional Burmese cooking looks like (the tools, the techniques, the way food is prepared at home), and explains what people in Myanmar eat daily and why they choose the foods they do.
Back in the kitchen, you prepare the meal yourself. If you want to show off your own cooking skills, you can. If you'd rather watch and learn, that works too. You'll have time to chat with your guide and their family while you're cooking, picking up details about how people live here and what food means in Burmese culture. The class wraps around a three-course lunch made from what you've prepared, served with coffee or tea.
