You’ll roll down Merzouga’s golden dunes inside a giant bubble—Morocco’s first zorbing spot. It’s fun, safe, and unlike anything else in the Sahara.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to find zorbing out here in Merzouga. But there we were, early afternoon, standing at the edge of those famous Erg Chebbi dunes with this huge clear plastic ball waiting for us. The sun was sharp but not too hot—just enough to make the sand warm under your feet, not burning. Our guide, Youssef, gave us a quick rundown (he jokes he’s rolled more times than he can count) and helped with the harness inside the ball. You can hear the wind moving over the dunes—kind of a soft whistle—and then it’s just you, rolling and laughing as you bounce down the slope. It’s weirdly smooth at first, then picks up speed. Sand swirls past your view like you’re inside a washing machine made of sunlight.
Afterwards, we sat on a low dune catching our breath and brushing sand off our shoes. There’s usually a guy selling mint tea nearby if you want to hang around and watch others try it (the locals seem to get a kick out of it). If you’re feeling adventurous, they also offer camel treks or buggy rides—just ask ahead. Honestly, zorbing here is nothing like doing it on grass back home; the sand cushions every bump and you end up grinning like an idiot at the bottom.
Yes! The guides explain everything and help with harnesses. The sand makes for a soft landing too.
Wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting sandy. Closed shoes are best—the sand gets everywhere!
Absolutely! Just let us know if you want to add camel trekking or buggy rides—we can arrange that for you.
Your private ride to and from the dunes is sorted, plus all zorbing equipment is provided. Just bring yourself (and maybe some water)—we’ll handle the rest!
