The Experience

The morning air in Marrakech always feels a bit cool before the sun really gets going. Our driver showed up right on time—he even texted us ten minutes before arrival, which helped since the medina can be a maze. The car was spotless and smelled faintly of mint, probably from the little bottle of water waiting for each of us in the cup holders.

We rolled out of the city just as the traffic started to pick up. I noticed how quickly the scenery changed—one minute you’re dodging scooters near Jemaa el-Fnaa, next you’re watching goats perched in argan trees along the road. The drive itself is smooth, about 2.5 hours if you don’t hit any big trucks. Our driver chatted with us in both French and English, pointing out Berber villages and sharing tips on where to grab fresh grilled sardines once we reached Essaouira.
