The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel or riad around 9 AM, followed by a 90-minute drive southeast into the High Atlas. Your guide shares details about the region and its Berber inhabitants as the landscape shifts from Marrakech's plains toward mountains and river valleys. Along the route, you stop at a traditional Berber family home to see how people live in the valley—the layout of rooms, the role of the kitchen, the daily rhythms—and at scenic overlooks to photograph the terrain. If you want, you can also visit a local argan oil cooperative to watch how the oil is extracted and processed by hand.

Once you reach Setti Fatma, the last village in the valley, you have the option to hike with a local mountain guide to the waterfalls themselves. The walk takes you through the village and up the riverbed, passing pools and cascades until you reach the main falls. The hike is optional and the guide is paid directly to them on the day. After the walk—or if you skip it—you eat lunch by the riverside, sitting in a café with views back down the valley.

The whole outing runs seven to eight hours from pickup to drop-off. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language depending on the option you choose at checkout. Children from age one are welcome, and the trip suits all fitness levels, though the hike to the waterfalls is steeper and rockier than the valley floor.
