The Experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel or riad around 9 AM, followed by a 90-minute drive southeast into the High Atlas. Your guide shares details about the region and its Berber inhabitants as the landscape shifts from Marrakech's plains toward mountains and river valleys. Along the route, you stop at a traditional Berber family home to see how people live in the valley—the layout of rooms, the role of the kitchen, the daily rhythms—and at scenic overlooks to photograph the terrain. If you want, you can also visit a local argan oil cooperative to watch how the oil is extracted and processed by hand.
Once you reach Setti Fatma, the last village in the valley, you have the option to hike with a local mountain guide to the waterfalls themselves. The walk takes you through the village and up the riverbed, passing pools and cascades until you reach the main falls. The hike is optional and the guide is paid directly to them on the day. After the walk—or if you skip it—you eat lunch by the riverside, sitting in a café with views back down the valley.
The whole outing runs seven to eight hours from pickup to drop-off. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language depending on the option you choose at checkout. Children from age one are welcome, and the trip suits all fitness levels, though the hike to the waterfalls is steeper and rockier than the valley floor.

Is this one for you?The seven-to-eight-hour commitment means you leave the medina in the morning and return by late afternoon, leaving the evening free for dinner in Marrakech. If you want a full day out of the city without an overnight stay, this window works; if you need to be back by midday or prefer a shorter outing, look for a half-day option instead.

How long is the drive from Marrakech to Ourika Valley?
The drive takes approximately 90 minutes each way. You leave your hotel around 9 AM and return in the late afternoon after seven to eight hours total.
What is Setti Fatma and can I reach the waterfalls?
Setti Fatma is the last village in Ourika Valley, where a river cascades down the mountainside in a series of falls. You can hike to them with a local mountain guide, who you pay directly on the day; the hike is optional and not included in the tour price.
What do I see at a Berber family home?
The stop at a traditional Berber home lets you walk through the rooms and learn how families live in the valley—their kitchen setup, where they sleep, how they organize their day. It is a brief visit, not a meal or a long stay.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Lunch is not included in the tour price, but you eat at a café by the river in Setti Fatma after the waterfall hike or village visit. You order and pay for your own meal there.
Can I visit the argan oil cooperative?
Yes, a visit to a local argan oil cooperative is optional along the drive. You can see how the oil is extracted and processed by hand, and cosmetic products made from it are available to buy.
Is this tour suitable for young children?
Children from age one are welcome on the tour. The drive and village visits suit all ages; the optional hike to the waterfalls involves rocky terrain and a steeper walk, so it depends on your child's mobility and comfort with uneven ground.
