The experience

You arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon and head straight to the camel trek starting point. After meeting your camel and guide, you ride into Erg Chebbi's dunes as the light drops. The trek pauses for sunset (the moment the dunes shift from gold to deep orange), and if you want, you can try sandboarding down the slopes before continuing to camp. Mint tea waits when you arrive.

The camp sits in the dunes with private tents (bathroom included in the luxury option, shared facilities in standard). After dinner (Moroccan tagine and more mint tea), the evening fills with Berber music around a campfire under the open sky. You sleep in the tent and wake early the next morning. Breakfast comes first, then a camel ride back to Merzouga as the sun climbs and the dunes warm. You're back in town by mid-morning, the trek finished.

A local guide who speaks your language leads both days. Groups stay under 50 people. Children from age one are welcome, and the operator notes the trek suits all fitness levels. You can book either the standard camp (private tent with shared bathroom) or the luxury version (private tent with private bathroom). The rides and activities are the same either way.

Is this one for you?Book the luxury tent if a private bathroom matters to your comfort in the desert. The standard tent keeps costs down and the shared facilities are part of the camp setup. Either way, the two-day structure is what fits the full camel experience: one night under the stars, two rides (sunset and sunrise), and time to settle into the rhythm of the desert without rushing back the same day.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Bangla, Chinese, Wu Chinese, Slovak, Serbian, Swedish, Korean, Kurdish, Cantonese, Tamil, MNP, Gujarati, Czech, Telugu, Punjabi, Thai, Polish, Danish, Hebrew, Javanese, Xiang Chinese, Chinese, Malay, Pashto, Filipino, Croatian, Hungarian, Hakka Chinese, Ukrainian, Urdu, Malayalam, Marathi, Greek, Russian, Burmese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Japanese, Persian, Romanian, Dutch, Norwegian, Finnish and Turkish.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 11 years); Infant (1 to 3 years).

What is Erg Chebbi and why is it the place for a camel trek?

Erg Chebbi is a vast sand dune field in Morocco's Sahara near Merzouga, one of the largest ergs in the country. It's the landscape where traditional salt caravans once crossed the desert, and it's the reason camel treks in this region are built around these particular dunes: the scale and the history make it the iconic Sahara experience in Morocco.

Do I ride a camel both days or just one?

You ride both days. The first afternoon and evening, you trek into the dunes to watch the sunset and reach camp. The second morning, after breakfast, you ride back to Merzouga as the sun rises.

What's the difference between the standard and luxury tent options?

Both are private tents in the desert camp. Standard includes a shared bathroom. Luxury includes a private bathroom attached to your tent. The camel rides, meals, activities and guide are identical in both.

Is sandboarding something I have to do, or can I skip it?

Sandboarding is optional. It happens during the first evening trek before you reach camp. If you'd rather not try it, you continue to camp with the group: the trek doesn't depend on it.

What happens if I arrive in Merzouga later than late afternoon?

The trek departs in the late afternoon, so arrival timing matters. Pickup from Merzouga is included, and your guide will coordinate the exact meeting point and time when you book. If your arrival is delayed, contact the operator before your travel date to adjust the start.
