Rikavac Canyon Canyoning: Learn to Rappel Yourself
You rappel the waterfall, not watch someone else do it
A canyoning class at Rikavac canyon where you learn to jump, slide and rappel by yourself rather than being lowered down as a passenger. After a briefing at Velja Vrata, you hike to the canyon top and spend two hours practicing the basics, then descend the waterfall using what you've just learned. All gear, photos and ICOpro certification are included.
The experience
The difference here is that you do the rappelling. Most canyoning trips lower you down on a belay. This one teaches you the technique first, then has you control your own descent. After coffee and a briefing at Velja Vrata, you hike to the canyon entrance where the instruction starts: jumping off rocks, sliding down natural chutes, and the mechanics of abseiling. The guide checks your setup before each rappel, but you're the one managing the rope and the speed.
Rikavac canyon itself is the payoff: a narrow, water-carved slot that most visitors never see. The two-hour descent mixes short rappels with natural slides and pools, moving at what the operator calls "slow canyoning," which means you have time to absorb each section instead of rushing through. You'll wear a wetsuit, helmet, harness and neoprene socks. The operator provides everything. Photos are taken throughout and handed over at the end.
Children from age seven can join, and the guide speaks English, French, Dutch or Serbian depending on the group. Pickup is included, so you don't arrange transport separately. You'll leave with an ICOpro certification card and a canyoning handbook, both part of the package.
