Grabovica Canyon Canyoning: Rappel, Jump & Slide
Rappel waterfalls and jump into pools in a hidden canyon.
Canyoning in Grabovica Canyon near Niksic is a four-hour activity where you rappel down cliffs, jump into crystal-clear pools and slide along natural rock formations with a live guide, helmet, wetsuit and harness provided. No experience is required. Guides walk you through each stage from a safety briefing at the start through the canyon descent and back. Small groups keep the attention personal.
The experience
You meet at the designated location where your guide briefs you on safety and fits you with a helmet, wetsuit, neoprene socks, harness and neoprene shoes. The guide explains how to move through the canyon, then leads you into the descent. What follows is a series of rappels down waterfalls, jumps into deep pools, and slides along natural water chutes carved into the rock. Grabovica Canyon itself does the work. The formations are real, the pools are cold and clear, and the guide stays with you at each stage to make sure the rope is right and you're ready before you commit to a drop or a jump.
The canyon is narrow enough that you're never far from the guide, and the small group size means you're not waiting for ten other people to rappel before your turn. Between the adrenaline moments (the rappels, the jumps). There are stretches where the canyon opens up and you can breathe, look around, and feel the weight of the rock and water around you. After the canyoning section, you rest in the natural surroundings before the walk back out.
Guides speak English or Serbian and work with anyone from age thirteen onward. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or poor cardiovascular health, but the operator states it suits all fitness levels otherwise. Four hours is the full time commitment, which leaves the rest of your day open if you're visiting Niksic.
