Climb the structures at Uxmal, then taste chocolate made the way the Maya did

A guided tour from Merida to the Mayan ruins of Uxmal and Kabah with a three-course meal and chocolate tasting at Choco Story, including round transportation. The day splits between guided commentary and free time at each ruin so you can explore at your own pace; at Choco Story, you'll watch the chocolate-making process and take part in a Mayan ceremony before tasting the finished product. Entrance fees to both ruins are paid in cash pesos on arrival.

The Experience

The tour leaves Merida with round transportation included, heading first to Uxmal. You get an hour of guided tour through the site's well-preserved structures—some of which you can climb—followed by an hour of free time to explore and photograph on your own. The guide walks you through the history and layout of the settlement, then steps back so you can linger where you want.

Kabah comes next, with a half hour of guided tour and a half hour free. The guide explains the reasoning behind how the Maya built everything here, then leaves you to wander. After the ruins, there's an hour at a Mexican restaurant for a three-course meal—entry, main dish and dessert included. Drinks are on your own.

The final stop is Choco Story, an artisanal Mayan chocolate factory. Authentic Mayan people teach you how chocolate was made traditionally, you taste the result, and the day ends with a Mayan ceremony. Transportation back to Merida is included in the total time.
