The experience

The Tulum ruins sit on a cliff edge where the Caribbean drops away beneath you, and that view, the turquoise water hitting the stone, is the first thing that hits. Your guide walks you through the Temple of the Frescoes and the other structures, explaining what the Mayan builders were doing up there facing the sunrise, and you get why they chose this spot. After Tulum, the day shifts.
