The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel at 8:30 am, followed by a 20–30 minute drive to Cenote Dos Ojos. Once there, your guide—a certified cave diver and biologist—walks you through a safety briefing before you enter the water. The first dive takes you along the Barbie Line at a maximum depth of 8 meters, where you'll move through stunning underwater formations in crystal-clear water. This dive runs about 45 minutes. You surface, rest, and refuel with seasonal fruit, snacks and water.

The second dive heads into the Bat Cave Line, where you'll surface inside a hidden chamber beneath massive stalactites. This is where the resident bat colony lives—your guide will point them out and explain how they've adapted to the cave environment. The second dive also runs around 45 minutes. All scuba gear, a torch light, and a 5 mm wetsuit are provided; you only need to bring your certification card and a willingness to move slowly through tight passages.

The cenote itself is a sinkhole formed by collapsed limestone, and the two dive lines you follow are part of a much larger system that stretches for kilometers underground. Your guide's knowledge of the geology—why the water is so clear, how the cave formed, what lives in it—turns the dive from a physical experience into an education.
