The experience

Pickup happens between 4:20 and 4:50 a.m. at your CDMX hotel or Airbnb, with the drive to the balloon port taking the rest of the early morning. You'll arrive at the launch area around 5:45 a.m. for coffee and cookies, then board the basket at 6:10 a.m. The flight lasts 40 to 50 minutes, climbing to more than 10,000 feet where the Teotihuacan pyramids spread below you in the half-light. The operator notes that roughly 9 out of 10 flights manage to pass directly over or very close to the archaeological zone, though weather and wind can shift the exact path. When the balloon touches down, the pilot conducts a traditional ceremony with a toast and presents each passenger with a flight certificate.

From there you move to La Cueva Restaurant, a natural cave where breakfast waits. The meal happens inside the cave itself: a 60-minute stop that starts around 8:00 a.m., though the cave's specific hours mean you might wait a few minutes to be seated depending on the day's capacity. By 9:00 a.m. you're at the Cultural Center, a 30-minute stop where you walk through an obsidian workshop (watching the stone become museum replicas), photograph the prehispanic mural alley, and visit a second cave that functions as a museum of archaeological pieces. A guide explains the maguey plant, then offers a Mexican toast with tequila and pulque, both included.

The guided tour of Teotihuacan itself runs 90 to 120 minutes, with an expert guide walking you through the archaeological zone. Entrance and the guide are part of the package. Return transport to CDMX departs around 11:00 a.m., dropping you at the same hotel or Airbnb where you started. The full day runs roughly eight hours from first pickup to final drop-off. All times shift slightly with weather and logistics, and the itinerary is designed to move as a group through each stop. If you want to leave before the final return, you'll need to arrange your own way back to the city.
