The experience
Six hours on the mountain means you start early and finish by early afternoon. The day opens with hiking and climbing sections that build toward the rim of Nido de los Aguiluchos, where the canyon opens below you. Once there, you step into a harness, helmet and carabiner system and begin the rappels: three descents that take you down the rock face, the longest one dropping 38 meters. The guides manage the rigging and your safety line. Your job is to control your descent and trust the rope.
The hike down follows the rappels, so your legs do the work on the return. Two guides stay with the group throughout, and they carry cameras to photograph and video the rappels. The moments when you're suspended above the canyon. Helmet, harness, carabiner, safety system and lifeline are all provided. Insurance covers the activity. Public transportation stops near the meeting point, so you don't need a rental car to get there.

Is this one for you?Six hours is a full morning and early afternoon, which leaves the rest of your day free in Monterrey but rules out combining this with another major activity. Book this if you want a single concentrated experience with vertical exposure rather than a day split between multiple sites.

How steep is the climbing before the rappels start?
The hike to the rim includes climbing sections, but they are part of a moderate-fitness activity designed to build toward the rappels rather than stand alone as technical climbing. The guides manage the route and pace to get you safely to the edge.
What happens if I'm nervous about rappelling down 38 meters?
The guides control your descent on a safety line, and you descend at your own pace. The three rappels vary in length, so you experience the technique on shorter drops before the longest one. Nervousness is normal. The guides are trained to work with it.
Do I need climbing experience to do this?
No prior climbing or rappelling experience is required. The guides teach you how to use the harness and manage the rope, and they stay with you throughout. Moderate physical fitness and comfort with heights are what matters.
