Horseback riding in La Mision: private beach and estuary
Ride the estuary and beach at your own speed, not a group's schedule
Private horseback riding in La Mision, Baja, where you ride a well-cared-for horse through the estuary and onto the beach at a pace that matches your comfort level. Your guide captures photos and video throughout and AirDrops them to you after the ride. The experience is tailored to your skill—beginners stick to a walk, confident riders can trot, canter or gallop—and includes time at the ranch with the dogs, goats, turkey and Taquito the donkey. Non-riders in your group can join the experience without a horse.
The Experience
The ride starts at the ranch in La Mision, where you meet your horse and the other animals—Jesus the cat, the ranch dogs, goats, a turkey, and Taquito the donkey. Your guide assesses your riding experience and builds the day around it. From there you head into the estuary, where Great Blue Herons and Snowy Egrets move through the water. The path winds toward the beach, and you emerge onto Playa La Mision, the stretch of sand the operator describes as the most beautiful in Northern Baja. How fast you move—walk, trot, canter or gallop—is your choice, not a group rule.
What sets this apart from larger horseback operations is the size and the setup. Horses by Jose keeps groups small and private, which means no "cattle-car" pace and no waiting for slower riders to catch up. The horses are fit and well-trained, cared for to standards the operator says are the highest in the region. Your guide photographs and films the ride as it happens—the estuary, the beach, you on the horse—and AirDrops the files to you before you leave the ranch, so you have the images without arranging a photographer or paying extra.
The ride lasts two hours total. If you're arriving from a cruise ship, the operator arranges a private, licensed taxi to meet you at the dock with a personalized sign and guarantees your return in time for departure. If your group includes non-riders, ask about the non-rider experience option when you book.
