Coffee farm and production tour
- Visit coffee farm in Coatepec
- Guided tour of coffee plantations
- Tour coffee production process
The experience
The tour picks you up at your hotel in Veracruz at 8 a.m. and heads to Coatepec, a town built on coffee farming. You'll walk through the town itself, then move to the working farms where the coffee actually grows. A guide takes you through the plantations so you see the plants and understand how the crop is managed before it ever reaches processing.
The heart of the day is the two beneficio visits (Hacienda de Pacho and Antiguo Beneficio), where the real work happens. You watch coffee cherries being dried and roasted, see the machines and methods that turn raw fruit into the beans you recognize, and taste the results. A refreshment is included during the tour. The whole experience runs about ten hours, ending when you're back in Veracruz by early evening.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sunblock and a hat. The farms are outdoors and the pace is steady. If you want to buy souvenirs or extra food along the way, bring cash beyond what covers the tour itself.
