Seven and a half hours from downtown Merida takes you through mangrove channels and across freshwater springs where the estuary opens to the sea. After the boat returns, you drive 20 minutes to Celestún Beach, where the afternoon is yours. Beach club facilities include loungers, showers, a pool, hammocks, and restaurant service. Lunch is optional and available on-site. Many travelers eat here, though it is not included in the tour price. You can swim in the ocean, rest in a hammock, or simply watch the water.
