The experience
Oaxaca holds 75% of Mexico's roughly 1,050 bird species, and Huatulco's coastline concentrates them. Winter months bring up to 230 species through migration, so the guide knows where to find them and what to listen for. You move between several spots in Huatulco National Park and along the coast, stopping to scan, identify and log sightings in the field charts provided.
The tour runs three to four hours. You get binoculars, field identification charts and books, so you're not guessing at what lands in the trees. The guide handles the route and the spotting strategy. Your job is to watch, listen and mark down what you see. Local fruit, water and beer come at the end, after the final stop.
Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English, Spanish or French. You'll need at least one other person to book a departure. Infants can sit on an adult's lap, and specialized infant seats are available if you need one.

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
How many bird species can I realistically spot on this tour?
Winter is peak season along the Huatulco coast, when migratory birds arrive and you can see up to 230 species in a single morning. The guide knows the high-traffic spots and the timing, so your checklist fills faster than it would on your own.
