The experience
The day starts before dawn with a local breakfast: birria tacos and quesabirrias from a no-frills stand that locals favor, the kind of place tourists usually miss. From there, the route heads west toward the border fence where it meets the ocean, a stop that frames the region's history and geography in one stark view. Then comes the long coastal drive south: roughly an hour and a half of Pacific cliffs, hidden beaches, and small seaside towns, with a photo stop at Mirador Salsipuedes for panoramic ocean views and fresh-cut fruit from local vendors.
La Bufadora itself is the centerpiece: a marine geyser that shoots ocean spray over 100 feet into the air when the swell is right. The blowhole sits on a peninsula just outside Ensenada, surrounded by artisan market stalls selling roasted corn, coconut candy, and local crafts. After that, the route loops back to Ensenada proper, where Bodegas de Santo Tomás (founded 1888, the oldest winery in Baja) offers a guided tasting of regional wines from the Valle de Santo Tomás. Ensenada itself is a cruise port with a waterfront, markets, and the historical claim to the original margarita: time to explore on your own or grab fresh seafood tostadas.
The final stop is Puerto Nuevo, a small lobster village south of Ensenada where the early dinner happens: fried Pacific lobster with homemade flour tortillas, rice, beans, and ocean views. The return to Tijuana takes about 40 minutes along the coast and through Baja's northern region. Private transport means your group travels together in an air-conditioned vehicle. Bottled water is provided throughout. A live guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your booking.
