You’ll taste real Martinique rum at its source, snap photos with sweeping island views, and unwind on Les Salines’ soft white sand. It’s an easygoing way to see the south coast—no rush, just good company and local flavor.
Sticky warmth hit me as we stepped out at Trois Rivières. The air smelled faintly sweet, a mix of sugarcane and wood. Our guide, Luc, waved us over—he’s been working at the distillery for years, knew every step of the process. We wandered past old copper stills, hearing about how the rum’s made right here in Sainte-Luce. The tasting wasn’t rushed; I tried a small pour of their agricole rum, sharp at first but mellow after a second sip. If you’re not into alcohol, they’ve got fresh juice too—my friend stuck with that and was happy.
Next, we rolled through Le Marin. Quick stop, but worth it. The lookout spot’s a bit windy—hold onto your hat!—but you get this wide-open view down to the south coast, and if the sky’s clear, you can actually spot St. Lucia on the horizon. Locals sometimes sell coconut water from a cooler near the parking lot. I grabbed one for a couple euros—cold and just a little salty from the ice.
Les Salines Beach was our last stop. It’s long—like, really long—and the sand squeaks under your feet. Coconut trees everywhere, some folks napping in their shade. I found a quiet patch near the far end where you could hear nothing but waves and kids laughing somewhere down the beach. There’s time for a swim or just to stretch out and watch clouds drift by. If you get hungry, there’s usually someone selling accras or ice cream from a cart near the entrance.
Absolutely! Kids and non-drinkers can enjoy fresh juice or water at the distillery, and there’s plenty for everyone at the beach.
You’ll have about an hour and a half to swim, walk, or just relax on the sand.
It’s handy to have a few euros for snacks or drinks at Le Marin or Les Salines, as some vendors don’t take cards.
